Reaching Digital Natives and Immigrants: Library 2.0Indiana Online Users Group Fall 2007 Program |
Wikis, Facebook, Flickr, YouTube, Second Life...
Do these terms make you feel like you're a foreigner in a strange land? Are you speaking a different language than your patrons? If so, then mark your calendar to attend the next IOLUG program, Reaching Digital Natives and Immigrants: Library 2.0.
Our keynote speaker is Mary Alice Ball, a professor at the Indiana University School of Library and Information Science at IUPUI. Professor Ball presently teaches a course on Library 2.0 technologies.
Sean Robinson and Kay Gregg from the Allen County Public Library will talk about their Library 2.0 experience with "23 Things" to help their staff learn about these new technologies. (http://schoollibrarylearning2.blogspot.com/2007/02/23-things_27.html).
Marsha Stevenson, Head of Arts, Architecture and Media at Notre Dame's University Libraries, will address the use of the site Flickr as a digital media management tool for architecture images. Larry Baerveldt from INCOLSA will discuss the use of blog software for content management and Kathleen Hanna, of the IUPUI University Library, will talk about her library's redesign of their web site using Drupal, an open source content management system. Jonathan Brinley, Metadata & Digital Initiatives Developer from Ball State University Libraries, will discuss and demonstrate creating and maintaining a library Wiki.
Our closing speaker will be Bill Helling, who is the Assistant Director and Systems Librarian for the Crawfordsville District Public Library. He is also an adjunct instructor for the IU School of Library and Information Science. Dr. Helling will discuss considerations for implementing and, more importantly, managing Library 2.0 technologies.
We will also provide a Blinded Me with Library Science Fair, an opportunity to speak with library scientists who are mad about these new technologies. (Cue maniacal laugh!) Presenters include Maria Accardi, Jason Fields, Eric Fisher, Kerry Green, Kay Gregg, Amanda Hurford, Scott Pfitzinger, and Sean Robinson.
Join us for an information-packed day that will help you find out about Library 2.0 technologies and help you to decide whether they're appropriate for you to implement at your library.
