Indiana Online Users Group Spring 2003 Meeting

Indiana Wesleyan University
Conference Center
3777 Priority Way South Drive
Indianapolis, Indiana

As librarians, we all need more time, more of us, and more ways of delivering instruction to our clientele when they are available for it. So, have you ever thought about converting that popular library workshop or instruction session to an online learning experience (OLE)? Dr. Noriko Hara, Assistant Professor of Information Science, SLIS-Bloomington, will share her expertise and insights concerning what libraries can do to assess a need, plan, create and implement an online training course or instructional unit. She will also touch upon topics such as the basics of a good online tutorial, the expected learning curve for the end user, minimal technical requirements, curriculum ideas, marketing to the public, and available software.

In the afternoon we will broaden out our definition of an OLE with Tim Holt’s presentation. He will discuss his work concerning the Indiana Library Videoconferencing project and workshops available via video streaming for librarians to brush up their skills. Julie Moline, University College Instructor and Librarian at IUPUI, will describe how her institution modified an existing information literacy tutorial to fit the needs of her institution. Rebecca Sanders, Coordinator of Distance Education, and Larry Cunningham, Director, both at Jennings County Public Library will address the service and technical issues of serving as a site for the College Cooperative Southeast Distance Education program. Ms. Sanders will also discuss her instructional involvement with Phoenix Online, a leading online university.
